By keeping the coffee hot, airtight carafes are used to store the coffee. The big difference is they don't actually brew coffee. Your coffee will remain hot and fresh when serves with carafes, this will allow you to brew coffee hours in advance.
Starbucks will rent you coffee carafes and which will allow you server their coffee at your event. These come prepared with many different kinds of coffee and a supply of sweeteners, half & half and all the other necessary accoutrements such as paper cups. Rentals of coffee carafes are a great idea if you don't plan on using a coffee urn that often.
